Description:
A storygame!
The City of Motion is a game about four intertwined characters living aboard a moving city after the apocalypse.
It originated after I was writing a starting scenario for Legacy: Life Among Ruins, with some mechanics and tone borrowed from Love in the Time of Seid and The Quiet Year. It runs without a GM.
It is in large part ready to be released, in this playlets I want to observing how folks play at least the first act with just the text, to see what questions would’ve gone unanswered if I was there.
Intro text:
Years after the Fall, the Singer established the City of Motion over the metropolitan ruins that perch on the back of the Walker.
At its founding, Motion consisted of a grand constitution, the Singer themself, and their child the Prodigal, who was banished from the moving city to the Wastes below in their youth.
With time, more families have been Lifted from the Wastes onto the the back of the Walker, and convinced to join the ambitiously titled “city”. Motion now thrives as a community of a few hundred, scattered upon a structure that once housed hundreds of thousands.
The Singer feeds Motion: their songs operate the incomprehensible and increasingly inefficient infrastructure of the Walker.
The Hunter protects Motion: their competence standing between the people of the city and a myriad of pre- and post-Fall dangers.
But now, as the Singer is dying and the Hunter finds evidence of an imminent Threat to Motion, the Prodigal has returned from exile. In the company of a strange, seemingly sentient Remnant of the Time before the Fall: the Stranger…
