Description:
“Eldest has died. Together, the Family must prepare a traditional, 5-day funeral.
Having moved abroad as a child, Youngest must travel to the funeral and deliver a eulogy to their Relatives, while grappling with traditions and customs that feel alien, but that are expected of them.”
A Dirge for Eldest is a freeform LARP about cultural confusion, misunderstandings, and family. One player takes on the role of Youngest, while the rest play the Family. The game plays out in scenes, and mechanics to mimic culture-clash are implemented to increase drama. Players also have the chance to play as the watchful eye of Society, expressing approval or dismay as they see fit. This is a semi-autobiographical game.
The game is beginner-friendly, and no in-depth knowledge of non-American culture is needed (we create the culture and even some of the language in-game).
