Description:

Adult -v- “Adult.”  What’s the difference?  How do you handle topics like sex, drugs, abuse, sexual assault?  Should you?  Our panel will talk about how to prep your group for the tough topics, how to handle them responsibly and how to make sure your players have an out if they need it.  Mickey Schulz (M), Ogre Whiteside, Brie Sheldon, Jason Morningstar. Saturday at 9pm.

Note: You don’t need to sign up for the panels ahead of time. Just come in and take any seat available.


MickeySchulz_sqMickey Schulz is a Geek Blogger with (lots) more than 10 years experience running SF/F conventions and games. She blogs at GeekGirlsRule.net about gaming, comics, movies, TV and books, from a feminist perspective. She has also taught Safer Sex classes for people re-entering the dating scene. She lives in the Seattle area with several fish, three cats, two housemates, one dog, and one husband. She is a firm believer in the Oxford Comma.

Ogre_sqOgre Whiteside is a long time tabletop gamer, amateur game designer and avid critic and commentator. He was the host of stabbingcontest, a podcast about social issues and new ideas about gaming and game design.

Brie_sqBrie Sheldon is a designer, writer, blogger, and editor for tabletop RPGs and larps, including Firefly Smuggler’s Guide to the Rim, Bubblegumshoe, Of The Woods: Lonely Games of Imagination, and as editor, Lusus Naturae and Viewscream 2nd Edition. They are primarily a story game player, but also play more traditional games like Shadowrun 3rd Edition. They have written the safety mechanic Script Change, and are currently working on the rural shapeshifter game Turn. Their blog, briecs.com, features interviews of game designers, players, and other creators, as well as Brie’s thoughts on design and projects.

JasonMorningstarJason Morningstar is a game designer who lives in Durham, North Carolina, USA. Best known for his game Fiasco, which earned him his second Diana Jones Award for Gaming Excellence, Jason’s game design credits include The Shab Al-Hiri Roach, Grey Ranks, Durance, Night Witches, and many other games.

Beyond roleplaying, Jason consults on the use of games for teaching and learning, most recently with Google Austria, the University of Michigan, Kaiser-Permanente Health Care, and the Innovation Learning Network. In addition to design, Jason has written extensively on game-related topics. His article “Beyond the Game Master,” co-written with Emily Care Boss and Ivan Vaghi, appeared in States of Play: Nordic Larp Around the World. His essay on improvisation, “Agreement, Endowment, and Knowing When to Shut Up” was recently featured in the anthology Unframed: The Art of Improvisation for Game Masters.
