Halloween has always been a favorite time at Hart high school in remote Woodburn, Oregon. The late night pajama party sleepover held on the school grounds is a favorite Halloween season event. Sure, teachers giving away trick-or-treat candy and telling scary stories are cute. But this is the night couples traditionally become couples, and evading the chaperones in order to hook up is a rite of passage.

Thing is, there’s someone here this year who doesn’t belong.
