Description:
1951 Los Angeles is a city afraid of itself. Communist paranoia clings to the air like the summertime smog, lingering behind every conversation, every shared look. Stars and scriptwriters alike shrink from its grasp while studios rush to scour themselves clean from even the slightest trace of Red Menace. In the midst of it all lies a disgraced production, a desperate tragedy, and a dark secret that roils beneath the streets of Los Angeles like so much La Brea tar.
Set near the height of the Hollywood blacklist, Blacklists and Black Magic is a supernatural noir mystery. Players will take on the roles of the various crew of a doomed B-list production unexpectedly embroiled in a hideous crime with dark and unnatural roots. The atmosphere will hopefully strike a mix between classic LA noir and surrealist fantasy. Raymond Chandler meets Eraserhead and The Fall.

How close are you thinking to _Cast a Deadly Spell_?
I haven’t seen the movie, but based on the descriptions I’ve found I’d say the campaign is less “alternate version of our world where magic is commonplace” and more “our world but fraying darkly at the edges”
If we’re using 90s pop-culture as a reference point, I’d maybe point to Twin Peaks instead.
Here’s also an illustration I was working on along these same lines:

For those still curious about the aesthetic, I put together a pinterest board for a similar campaign I ran set in 30s NYC. The time and location are different, but the general look and feel still holds.
