Description:

In 1958, Nat Mendelsohn had a dream: a metropolis that would rival Los Angeles, built on three hundred and twenty square kilometers of pristine Mojave desert. It was going to an All-American utopia of idyllic homes, white picket fences, and smiling faces – a shining beacon where wholesome folk could raise families away from the filth and corruption of the old cities. He called his dream California City.

But that dream never came to be. Half a century later, California City exists as hundreds of miles of empty dust-swept streets snaking across the desert, and dozens of shambling, failed real estate developments dotting the open landscape.

You live here, and you expected to die here. But you never figured the end would come so soon.

One night, you found a dead man and a suitcase full of cash. The cash looked like a lifeline that would make all your problems go away. So you took it, and by doing so called up the hidden currents of violence, corruption, and danger that have always swirled beneath California City. Now they rise up around you and threaten to swallow you whole.

SECRETS & LIES is a noir roleplaying game inspired by the fiction of Raymond Chandler. CALIFORNIA CITY is a modern crime drama set in early 21st century rural California.
