Description:

The past lies in pieces.

Fires of Emsi
A live game about dead silence.

Once upon a time, the great city of Igris glittered in the desert. Tall white spires punctuated the sky, beautiful and arrogant. There you were beautiful, or strong, or powerful, or perhaps all three.

Now where your home once stood, there’s only a scattering of rough stones; the lone and level sands stretch far away. A part of you is dust.

Thirteen years have passed, and with them the affairs of men. On this faint echo of a once-holy day, the world is no longer watching.

But a fire burns in the ruins. Ghosts lie among the stones. Against all odds, a past you have long ago abandoned is not yet ready to abandon you.

Characters will be assigned carefully by survey in advance.

Caldera
Adventures in emotional sense-making.

Caldera is a larp format for dramatic stories about a group of people revisiting a fraught, intense, disjointed, and traumatic time in their past.

Long ago, something happened, and you were broken. The pieces still hurt to touch, but in the years since then you have tried to get by as an incomplete part of yourself while avoiding those jagged edges. Now the time has come to revisit and reinterpret the past in order to create the future… or fail to.

Caldera dramatizes internal processing the way other genres might dramatize swordplay or a courtroom.

Should I play this game?

This is a game about processing.
A significant portion of the plot takes place purely internally. External action is primarily important to drive internal experience. There are no winners or losers; your greatest and only enemy is yourself.

This game is designed around bleed.
Characters are run on the scaffold of the player’s psyche, so game turns on the player’s willingness to bleed their own instincts and feelings into the character. Please come prepared to help create supportive environment.

Caldera assumes some existing familiarity and/or experience with emotional sensemaking around trauma.
We will be creating a safe space to roleplay from that part of ourselves, and exploring different unique interpretations of the experience.

You may enjoy this game for
grief, nostalgia, lyrical play, identity, coping mechanisms, uncertain realities, emotional immersion, fallen empires, ancient world.
