Description:
You were born on January 1, 1901. You had traveled and saved the world in an era of excess and isolation. They called you the Spirit of the Century. In the 30’s you became a partisan against tyranny. In the 40’s, a patriot to end global war. The world you wrought seemed to come together in the 50s and 60s, and then past the Zenith of the Century, things seemed to fall apart.
Good and Evil no longer fit into clean boxes. More and more of your legendary comrades (itself, now, a loaded term) did the unthinkable – they died tragically, settling the question of immortality. The Century Club, with its still mysterious existence, no longer is found in the heights of power, but in corners of abandoned markets or in the dilapidated edges of crumbling cities. Greed and selfish pursuit of power gain ground despite your efforts, and the people’s cries grow desperate.
It is now 1996. Despite being 95 years old, you have not suffered time nor tide like most of humanity. It is anyway clear, now, that you are under death’s shadow. If not now, soon. Do you believe that you will live to see past December 31st, 1999? Will death come only when you give up the fight and embrace despair? Or, can you go out in glory, and make your death even more world-changing than your life has been?
!!TW!! Your character sheet will be in the format of your* (*character’s) Last Will and Testament. In sort of an anti-pulp style, we will explore the aging hero myth. This is not a macabre pity party, however; nor is death certain. You will be great, you* will take action, you* will perform acts of heroism and justice – like the core of FATE – but you will also be reminded of death and loss every time you look towards your sheet, and you will be asked by the system to consider your* mortality. You* will be challenged to become “weaker” (mechanically) and make sacrifices for the benefit of no one except make-believe people (and, hopefully, our narrative). There is also a high risk of gallows humor and 90s references (which, if they can’t make you feel old, certainly may affect your GM).
