Wolf Chase 2016!

Every year at Big Bad Con, gamers will be faced with decisions such as can I outrun this creature bearing down on me with vicious claws and gnashing teeth? Usually these questions are solved by a roll of the dice. But some gamers decide to really test it by getting up with the sun and running for real in the Wolf Chase!

This Wolf Chase 2016 is on Sunday 16th from 7-8am. There are two courses the running course and the walking course — because hey you might need practice walking away from the slow zeds.

Support the runners! Support Doctors without Borders!

Can’t make the run but want to support the runners? Want to help doctors save lives all over the world? Heck yeah you do, check out our Crowdrise campaign!

Project Biomodus game playtest

Over the years, Big Bad Con has developed a history of amazing game designers bringing their game ideas to try out — we love this! This year is no different as we have a bunch of creative people bringing their games to playtest! There are so many great new interesting games it’s hard to pick just one. However, I really wanted to highlight Project Biomodus because their team has put in an incredible amount of effort into preparing for the con.

What is Project Biomodus you ask?

Project Biomodus is a apocalyptic future roleplaying game where humanity is dead. The ecosystem is a spiraling engine of overworked bio-mechanical constructs, trying desperately to adapt and survive in on a world that is falling ever closer to death. Nothing is as it once was, and in the middle of it all – the transhuman descendants of humanity: Homo Biomodi – struggle to carve out their survival in a world of hollowed-out, concrete husks, vast deserts of ash and dirt and under the predatory eyes of the twisted monsters who survived alongside them.

If this sort of amazing intense crazy scifi interests you then I highly recommend signing up!

Did I mention how awesome the art they made for this is?!

Guests for Glory

Take heart! If you come to Big Bad Con this year, you won’t face the duck knights and psychic schoolgirls and perils of a haunted desert alone. Thanks to the community who really came through on our Kickstarter, we’ve provided a pantheon of special guests—game designers, event-runners, and masterminds alike—to make our journey to the heights and depths of danger (and/or New Jersey) the best it can be.

Elsa Sjunneson-Henry

Elsa Sjunneson-HenryElsa is a disability advocate and game designer living in New Jersey. She’s the assistant editrix for Fireside Fiction, writes on disability and intersectional feminism at Feminist Sonar, and her nonfiction work can be found in Dragon+ and The Analog Games Journal. She was an Industry Insider at GenCon 2014, and will be at Guest of Honor at OrcaCon 2017. In her spare time she wanders the streets of Hell’s Kitchen with her cane in hand. She can be found at @snarkbat on Twitter.

Elsa will be hosting:

  • Blind Lady vs RPG & Larp, a panel aimed at giving game designers and game runners the tools to make their games inclusive for players with disabilities.
  • Destroying The Fake Geek Girl Fallacy, a panel tearing apart the fallacy of the Fake Geek Girl, why this trope is harmful to women and to the gaming community at large.
  • Dead Scare, a game of blood-stained picket fences, makeshift weapons, and survival. You play as the women and children of 1950s American Suburbia. It’s 1953. The radios went off days ago, and here you are at home, on summer break, bored out of your mind. When the zeds come.

Update 9/30/2016: Due to health reasons Elsa will not be able to attend Big Bad Con this year. We hope to see her back in 2017! Elsa has given the funds allocated to her from the Kickstarter to the Scholarship Fund.

She currently lives in New York, where she creates videos, writes games on the subway and eats lasagna.

  • Welcome to New Jersey, a LARP where players go on a really, really long road trip to a gaming convention.
  • Suspiriorum, a LARP where players are stuck in an 80’s nightclub with a killer on the loose.

Big Bad Online!

As a result of this year’s Big Bad Con Kickstarter, we had several live online games happen with some amazing GMs — many of whom were designers of the games themselves! It was a great success thanks to not only the GMs but the players and we want to encourage more of these online games in 2017! If you enjoyed these games let us know. If you have ideas how we can expand online games as part of Big Bad Con feel free to contact us.

If you missed the games you can watch them all below!

Blade in the Dark, GM (and designer of the game): John Harper

Bluebeard’s Bride, GM (and designer of the game): Sarah Richardson

Masks, GM (and designer of the game): Brendan Conway

Monsterhearts, GM: Kira Magrann

Cartel, GM (and designer of the game): Mark Diaz Truman

They had to start it over, so it’s in two parts.
