Pickup Games at Big Bad Con

Open Gaming

The Wolf has plenty of scheduled games in the line up, but that’s not all, he’s opened up the Black Forest for games of all shapes and sizes in open gaming.

The Hilton Empire room is our, all ours. 1,248 square feet of open gaming all con long.  Pick RPGs, board games, card games, anything you want to bring.

The Big Bad Staff will be on hand with a white board and twitter, acting as a matchmakers for folks looking for a game.  Make sure to follow @BigBadCon so you can keep appraised of events as they pop up at the con.

What folks said about open gaming in the past:

“I’m pretty much planting myself in open gaming, with a sign, when I’m not running my events.” – Leonard Balsera

“I plan on bringing some cool games like Fiasco and Dungeon world to run ‘on demand’ in open gaming” – Chris Bennett

“Because of the nature of In A Wicked Age, I’d be willing to run follow-up games (chapters) if any of the players wish to. This may happen within my slot or perhaps during later free-play. ” – Jesse Coombs

I just got back from a very successful Demo of Space: the game V2 (STGV2)at the LA Strategicon Gateway 2014 where it was the talk of the convention. Everyone was intrigued to play a board game that does not have a board. I received tons of positive feedback from first time players on how accessible the rules are and how dynamic the strategy develops without spending a lot of down time waiting for players to decide what to do.

I hope everyone stops by to see and play the game since it was developed here in the Bay area.

Me and a friend or two will be playing, and teaching others how to play, Space the Game V2. Space the game V2 is a revolutionary new 3D gaming experience. It’s played in a 3 dimensional playing field above the tabletop (no electronics). Look for us after the noon hour each day. If you have not seen STGV2 yet, don’t worry, you’ll know it when you see it.

  • I’ll be running a demo of my Lovecraftian card game, Feed the Shoggoth!, from 10-2 on Sunday in Open Gaming. Feed the Shoggoth is a fast and furious card game in which you play the leader of a cult faction. An angry and very hungry shoggoth roams around the table; to appease the shoggoth (and gain points to win the game), you must feed the minions of your cult to the shoggoth if it’s in front of you on your turn. The other cult faction leaders can cast spells and use artifacts to disrupt your sacrifice. But watch out- if you can’t feed the shoggoth on your turn, the shoggoth eats *you*, and you’re out of the game!

I’ll be toting along a couple crates of board games and on the ready to run pickup games of Dungeon Crawl Classics (DCC).

I will likely be spending most of Sunday in Open Gaming, ready to run stuff. If you don’t get into your first choice, come on by and we’ll see if we can’t scrape something together. I’ll bring Fading Suns, In Nomine, and possibly All Flesh Must Be Eaten.

I am going to be demoing my board and card games: Armorica, Cambria, and Hibernia for several hours on Sunday in the pickup game room. They are all short, so you can squeeze one in between RPGs.

Definitely down to play Dungeon World on demand.

I’ll bring Dungeon World, Fiasco, and probably some GMless stuff like S/Lay w/ Me, Remember Tomorrow, and Shock.

I’m going to bring a few board games too.

I am bringing Dungeon World and am willing to run it at the drop of a hat if anyone is interested.

I should have Monster of the Week, Hollowpoint, and maybe Apocalypse World games ready to go, as well as more Dungeon World.
